Music is of great importance in the Lutheran Church, so Morning Star is thankful to have Ed Tompkins serve as minister of music. Ed served as Director of Music/Organist at River Road Presbyterian Church in Richmond Virginia from August 1987 - December 2003. He came to Morning Star in 2004 and has lead us to a new level of music ministry! Ed earned his undergraduate degree in music and religion from Duke University and a Master of Church Music degree from Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville Tennessee. Ed is highly qualified to lead and direct our vocal and instrumental choirs and enjoys working with all ages. He challenges our musicians to offer their best to the glory of God with a strong sense of joy, dedication and fun. He is active in the leadership of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers and the American Choral Directors Association. Ed is a certified Colleague in the American Guild of Organists (CAGO).
Known as “Ms Chrissy,” she welcomes our infants and children in the nursery each Sunday morning. Certified in child care, Chrissy, has devoted most of her professional life to caring for children. She supervised the after school day care program for La Petite Academy and served as a pre-school teacher for Christ Lutheran Child Care prior to becoming a stay home mom in 2004. Chrissy has been head nursery attendant since 1993. Morning Star is blessed to have Chrissy share God’s love with our children.
Jennifer has been on staff in the nursery since 2005 and has been a wonderful addition to our Sunday morning childcare ministry. Jennifer is a trained nurse and mother of two sons so she knows how important it is to share warmth and compassion with our youngest members.
Liz has been our Youth Staffer since 2005 and has been a wonderful addition to our Youth ministry. Liz is very active with our youth and the Lutheran Youth Organization and has our youth very involved in service and fellowship. Morning Star is blessed to have such a faithful, committed servant who views her employment not as a job but as a ministry.
Jerry joined the staff at Morning Star as Business Manager in early 2008. Jerry is responsible for vendors, contracts, bills and the like on behalf of the congregation. Jerry is a skilled manager and looks forward to using his talents to streamline the week to week operations of the churc
